Principal | Position Statement

The Principal is delegated to protect, represent and promote the vision, mission and values of Rivermount College. With a genuine heart for Christian education and an exemplary understanding of contemporary societal issues, the successful applicant will lead the College community with compassion, integrity and respect.

Role of the College Principal:

The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day strategic operations of the College with a strong focus on:

  • Governance and compliance
  • Teaching and learning
  • Educational leadership 
  • Operations management 
  • Community relationships

1.0 Governance and Compliance

  • Work collaboratively and transparently with the Board of Directors of Rivermount Education Limited to achieve strategic goals.
  • In consultation with the Board of Directors of Rivermount Education Limited, assist in leading the development and implementation of strategic, operational, financial, and master plans.
  • Manage the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and practices to align with the school’s vision, mission, values and strategic plan.
  • Regularly report and make recommendations to the College Board on educational, financial and compliance matters

2.0 Teaching and Learning

  • Lead and build a collaborative learning community focused on excellence in teaching and learning through ongoing teacher development and school improvement planning.
  • Foster a strong culture of teacher capacity, best practice and pursuit of rigorous educational outcomes for students of all abilities.
  • Oversee the College curriculum to ensure compliance with the Australian Curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure high levels of student wellbeing and management.
  • Provide strong budget and resource management to support high standards of teaching and learning, within a safe, innovative learning environment.

3.0 Educational Leadership

  • Engage the College strategic priorities by facilitating continuous improvement to the College and staff.
  • Foster excellence in learning and teaching programs to nurture quality outcomes.
  • In alignment with the College ethos and policies, consistently model professionalism, effective communication and a commitment to excellence.
  • Ensure the wellbeing and protection of students by implementing policies and practices that contribute to a safe environment.
  • Undertake appropriate professional learning and engage in professional associations.

4.0 Operations Management

  • Ensure the compliance of the College with all applicable legislation, policies and practices of relevant bodies, including the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board
  • Oversee the financial goals and performance of the organisation in alignment with the College's compliance framework.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate delegations, accountabilities and reporting lines with the school’s senior executive team for effective leadership and management of all college operations.
  • In liaison with the Business Manager, ensure proper financial procedures and controls are implemented and provide effective management of the College's resources.
  • Ensure that the College's promotion and marketing strategies lead to effective enrolment outcomes

5.0 Community Relationships

  • Develop and nurture genuine, respectful, positive relationships with all College community members, including parents and alumni.
  • Foster a community culture of inclusivity, confidence and trust in the College.
  • Build appropriate links with local organisations.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES AND PROCESS

Basic Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this position, you must have demonstrated experience as an educational leader in a senior position and possess, or be eligible, for full registration as a teacher in Queensland. Post-graduate qualifications in education or a related discipline (e.g., leadership or management) are desirable.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful applicant must demonstrate the experience, attributes and skills required to lead the College in its next development phase.

For each of the following criteria, please provide a detailed explanation of any relevant experience and/or how you demonstrate, or would expect to implement each of the following criteria.

  1. A clear vision and support for the mission and vision of Rivermount College, including the Christian ethos, with a proven commitment to excellence in teaching, whilst leading and serving a diverse community, with compassion and ethical judgement.
  2. Leadership, management and administration of an independent P-12 school, including an appreciation of financial and commercial matters, with a history of excellence as a teacher, accompanied by strong academic qualifications
  3. Proven commitment to the wellbeing and safety of students, families and staff members.
  4. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the legislative and systematic compliance requirements applicable to all independent schools.
  5. Extensive knowledge and application in the successful development, implementation and evaluation of current educational policies, pedagogy and curriculum practices.
  6. Proven experience in delivering educational excellence across academic, pastoral, sporting and cultural endeavors within a school environment.
  7. Ability to communicate, consult effectively and professionally with all members of the College community, including the Board of Directors, parents, other schools and educational authorities.
  8. Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to lead, collaborate, consult and delegate, whilst maintaining high levels of staff productivity, engagement and morale.

Classification, Remuneration and Contract Period

  • A remuneration package reflecting the level of skill and experience of the successful applicant will be negotiated with the Board of Directors.
  • The successful applicant will be required to enter into an executive contract for an initial period of five years with an option to renew based on mutual agreement and subject to meeting performance criteria.
  • A relocation allowance may potentially be provided to assist the appointed candidate in relocating to the local area.
  • Employment will be fulltime for a five year term, with the capacity for extension based on successful performance.
  • The Principal will participate in an annual performance planning and review processes with the Board. A summative review before the end of the five-year contract term may be required. Reappointment to the position by the Board will depend on a satisfactory summative review.

  3. A written statement addressing the selection criteria.
  4. Certified documentation, providing evidence of Identity (birth certificate, or passport) and where necessary, proof of a change of name (e.g. Marriage certificate), evidence of Queensland Teacher registration and evidence of Tertiary Education qualifications.
  5. The contact details of three (3) professional referees, one of whom should be your current employer.

The successful candidate will be appointed by 1 July 2025, for commencement on 1 January 2026.
